12.3 A Final Thought

One day your code, too, will be inherited by someone else. We all leave behind reminders of our presence wherever we go: some pleasant, some otherwise. Code is one such reminder, admittedly a minor one in the grand scheme of things. However, it can be argued that no act is small, and that you can be judged as accurately from your code as anything else you create. I tell my students that there are three mental prerequisites for a successful programming project (in addition to the expertise that they must acquire anyway):

  • You must believe you can do it.

  • You must want to make it as good as possible.

  • You must have fun doing it.

My best wishes for the success of your own endeavors.
